BIO
Sofie Zamchick is an indie-pop singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who accompanies herself on VibeKAT (electronic marimba), piano, and guitar. Named by WFUV as one of “10 New York City Artists to Watch,” Sofie’s music is unapologetically emotional and honest; her voice “flutters between sweet and salty” (Kara Manning).
Growing up 20 minutes outside of NYC with a cartoonist dad and costume designer mom, Sofie spent her childhood afternoons in recording booths as the voice of Linny on Nick Jr.’s “The Wonder Pets” and soloing on Kidz Bop CD’s; nights performing at the Guggenheim, The Bitter End, Don’t Tell Mama, and The Met; weekends at Juilliard Pre-College studying percussion; and summers acting in weird art films with Eve Sussman and Matthew Barney. Fittingly, she found herself at NYU Tisch’s Experimental Theatre Wing for college, a BFA program where she focused on acting, music, and creating her own work interweaving the two.
Sofie started writing songs at age 7, first on piano, then on her pink guitar, then marimba. She was obsessed with Regina Spektor and Sufjan Stevens, devoured Rent and Spring Awakening, crushed on boys and girls, and shared too much about herself online (some things never change).
In 2019, Sofie opened for NPR Tiny Desk Contest winner Quinn Christopherson on the NYC leg of his tour. She’s an alumni of the Johnny Mercer Songwriters Projects (mentored by songwriters Lindy Robbins, Andrew Lippa, and Craig Carnelia) and the Honeywell Arts “Resonance” Program for “unconventional musicians” led by string trio Time for Three and pianist Peter Dugan. Sofie frequently gigs at NYC venues like The Loft at City Winery, Pianos, Rockwood Music Hall, New York Public Library, Arlene’s Grocery, The Delancey, The Bitter End, and Baby’s All Right.
Sofie has released two EPs. “So This is Goodbye” (2022) is a trip-down-memory-lane break-up album and her debut EP “until we meet” (2019) explores long-distance / internet relationships. Her singles “Electric Palms,” “Chemistry,” and “Screen Door Memories” have received airplay on WFUV radio, further cementing her place in the indie music scene.
